Once our free internet got password protected and inconsistent at best, Endrit decided (with my approval) that we needed to start paying for our own internet service at home. We thought it was going to be easy peasy, get the router and that is it. Well, you have to plug in the router to the phone line. I look at our phone jack and some IDIOT got paint in it...not just a little, gobs of paint! I tried to clean it out to no avail. We unscrewed it from the wall to see what we were facing when we went an bought a new jack and it was a MESS! wires everywhere, no color coordination, old wiring. It kinda scared me, I have to admit. But, with the promise of internet after all that mess was taken care of, I was talking about calling the landlords and making them deal with it or call the internet guy, but we decided a trip to Home Depot was worth it. We had 1 other thing to buy (stupid cat breaking things...) so we went to our anniversary dinner at chili's and then went to Home Depot.
We bought the new phone jack and came home to tackle the problem. There were some weird box type things in there that were not working. Well, they worked for a while, but not after I let go, so armed with that information, Endrit decided it was time to direct wire the phone lines instead of using the box things. We didn't know if it would work. It could have been fruitless and called the Landlords, but it worked. We taped it and now we have some great internet at home.
The encription key (or pasword) is 26 alphanumeric characters! At least it is really secure. Typing it into the Wii and PS3 was interesting. There is something about a keyboard that is easier to type in a 26 character password.
I am on Skype now for anyone that wants to talk to me. I have been on it for a while, but well, without internet, it is hard to use it :). Internet is nice. I am always amazed of the scientific enginuity of Endrit. I don't think I would have thought to do that, but at the same time, after 2.5 hours of fighting with wires, I was willing to try anything. Endrit never ceases to amaze me.
