Follow-up questions on NFP

There have been a couple of questions asked about Natural Family Planning (NFP) since my post a week ago.

First off, your body can prepare to ovulate, most signs can say ovulation and not ovulate. It doesn't mean that you ovulated and you can go through a second or third preparation to ovulate before the egg actually releases.

When you ovulate, there is a small chance of a double ovulation, but that will be within the next 24 hours from the first ovulation. No scientific evidence is there for 2 ovulations further apart than 24 hours. This is because the second part of your cycle (luteal phase) is mainly consistent between 10-14 days. Once you have ovulated, you will have your period within that time unless you are pregnant. (That is why you can know you are pregnant without a test)

The book I recommended went over the Shettle's method of sex determination of conception. It is determined by the physical properties of the sperm. Male sperm are fast but die out quickly. Female sperm are the "slow and steady wins the race" kind of sperm. They can take a while to get to where the egg will be but they survive longer than the male sperm. So if you have relations within 24 hours of ovulation, Boy (usually). If you read your fertile times and have relations no closer than 3 days before ovulation, most likely it will be a girl. Of course, this isn't 100% but it is closer to 70's-80's. I don't have my book so I am unsure the exact numbers.

There are some "yucky" observations. It isn't too bad. Mostly it is just when going to the bathroom. One of those things that I won't go into because I am more than willing to answer this question in my comments section if posed...

So, those are the main things I thought I would explain.

Thanks for clarifying Rachel. I knew that about the sperm. Where the boy ones will get up there super quick and if there's no egg - die and the girl ones are slower, but bigger, and more hearty - so they can survive longer.
My plan was the have "relations" at the FIRST sign of fertility and not again (unprotected) until the following cycle. And if that doesn't work a day closer to ovulation - and just repeat: moving up a day each time - until I got my girl.
So I've been paying attention, but don't think I have it all figured out yet.
Maybe I'll have to make a trip to the library ;)
