Working the System

There is one good thing to being in school for 5 years. You know how to get financial aid. This semester I have been able to qualify for many things of financial aid and great scholarships. Scholarships mostly pay for my tuition now. It is a great incentive to get good grades. Also I have learned to look at my financial aid about monthly and look it over for inaccuracies. This academic year, I was awarded work-study which I will not use. Work-study is just that. You get a job that is elligable for use of those funds and you work for free to them but still get money. I have chosen not to work because of my health maintenence. That is $5000 that is showing that I have financial aid, when I will not use it, puting other grants I am still elligable for at risk because I am about $200 away from overaward. If your are overawarded, it is less likely that you will get another grant that is need based. I canceled the work-study today so that I will be able to get the SMART grant for my senior year. I am proud of myself for seeing these and fixing them in order to really get the ability to have my schooling all paid for by grants and scholarships. I wish that more people knew what they were elligable for so that more people would go back to school and get degrees. There really is a LOT of money out there for people to get for free. Granted it is better if you are a resident in the state where you go to school. If you are not, tough luck getting any scholarships, but grants, you still get.
Being a resident also brought another grant to me that I didn't know about. It is really nice to even get a few hundred dollars more than you thought that you would. By the end of this month, I hope to get the grant that I should still qualify for.

Hey, you need to talk with Heidi. She is going to school again and it is terribly expensive to fund. We can do it but we would love to recieve grants to offload some of the expence. Good job seeing what you need done.
